Don't Advertise!
Indeed, this was the message at the Word-of-Mouth Marketing Association's meeting recently. Word-of-mouth advertising--also known as viral and buzz marketing--has become so popular that an entire industry of professional advertising firms has sprung up to address it. Blogs, Podcasting and online message boards (GoGroups anyone?) are some of the most popular online areas for messages. Furthermore, the search for real-life "cool kids" to promote brands is out - and the search for online "influencers" and "promoters" is on.

Yeah right! I am a big proponent of WOM marketing (I am on the Board of WOMMA), but advertising still has a lot to offer.
